Started in 2008 at the base of Mont-Blanc in Chamonix, Blue Ice, now has two offices spanning the Atlantic.  Our beginnings were humble, but through the years we have become known in the outdoor industry as a small company willing to take chances on innovative and creative designs in several different categories: Harnesses, Ice Tools, and Backpacks and more.  From the lightest true climbing harness, the Addax; to one of the lightest ski mountaineering ice axes on the market, the Hummingbird; people are starting to find Blue Ice to be synonymous with light weight.  We build tools for alpinists, climbers, and skiers.

 

Description:

Title:  Senior Engineer

Blue Ice is seeking an experienced mechanical design engineer to join our small team located in Salt Lake City.  Successful candidates must have a robust background in mechanical design, especially consumer product design.  Experience in the entire process of product design is necessary; from project scoping, concepting, building prototypes, solid modeling, analysis, testing, and commercialization.  Must be a self-starter and be able to bring novel thinking to all aspects of their work. 

Requirements:

•      Demonstrated portfolio of designing and commercializing innovative consumer products

•      Exceptional CAD skills (Solidworks preferred) including advanced surfacing

•      Robust drafting skills per ASME standards

•      Proficiently read and write GD&T to ASME Y14.5

•      Previous experience incorporating Industrial Design into mechanical designs

•      Brings a DFM mindset to improve manufacturability throughout the design process

•      FEA experience including nonlinear material and contact problems

•      High competency with MS Office, particularly Excel

•      Experience within Quality systems supporting regulated industries

•      Data-driven decision maker using the scientific method

•      Self-learner and inquisitive¬–always optimizing their personal and the organization’s processes

•      Familiar with the practice of LEAN Product Development

•      Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively as a team member.

•      Comfortable in a dynamic working environment with a high amount of change

•      Able to mentor junior engineers

•      Occasional travel (<4 times per year)

Qualifications:
Master’s (preferred) degree in Mechanical Engineering and 10 years of experience.
