Title: Marketing Director

Reports to: VP of Marketing + Communications

Supervises: Marketing Manager, PR + Communications Manager, Contract Vendors

Full-time, salary/exempt position. The work requirement will be approximately 40 hours per week. The position will require occasional travel.

Position Summary: 

The Marketing Director at Visit Bend is an essential position for the organization and the economic development efforts of the City of Bend.  This position is integrally involved in the strategic planning of Visit Bend’s tourism marketing programs, and has a high level of contact outside the organization representing Visit Bend and the Bend tourism industry throughout the local community as well as the statewide tourism industry. 

The Marketing Director is directly responsible for the day-to-day implementation and execution of Visit Bend’s marketing programs and works closely with Visit Bend’s CEO, VP of Marketing + Communications, and all Visit Bend staff and board of directors. This position entails a high level of independent work and requires expertise across a broad spectrum of marketing disciplines to maintain Visit Bend’s role as one of the most innovative and effective Destination Marketing Organizations in the United States.   

Management Responsibilities:
The Marketing Director is responsible for day-to-day management of Visit Bend’s media partners and contracted marketing vendors, including photographers, agencies, research firms, and other marketing services vendors. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Primary content manager of www.visitbend.com
    • Manages website content through WordPress CMS. Visit Bend’s Marketing Director must develop an expert understanding of the platform. 

 

  1. Utilizes SEMRush, Google Search Console, and other SEO tools to maintain Visit Bend’s presence at the top of search results. 

 

  1. Works closely with contract vendors on a broad variety of areas including: SEO/SEM, site and app development projects, online advertising programs, blog, social media, etc.

 

  1. Manages and executes Visit Bend’s broadcast email program
    • Strategy development for broadcast emails
    • Database management
    • Drafting and design of monthly broadcast emails
    • Reporting on performance of broadcast emails (understanding of HTML code is required)
    • Concepting of promotions and special offers

 

  1. Oversees media planning and media buying for Visit Bend’s television, radio, print, and digital advertising buys
    • Interacts with media vendors
    • Manages Visit Bend’s advertising budgets and buys
    • Initiates and implements promotions

 

  1. Works with the VP of Marketing + Communications on the production process of Visit Bend’s creative campaigns
    • Collaborates with the VP of Marketing + Communications on concepting, copywriting, videography, photography, music selection, editing, and every step of the creative process

  2. Works with the Visit Bend marketing team to deliver creative assets to media partners per specs in a timely manner. This includes digital ads, videos, print ads, and other misc. marketing assets

 

  1. Develops social media strategies and works with the Visit Bend team to implement.

 

  1. Designs a variety of Visit Bend printed materials including brochures, business plans, signs, logos, etc.

 

  1. Serves on various committees and task forces throughout the city and statewide tourism industry

 

  1. Travels to attend consumer trade shows, industry conferences, and pertinent events

 

  1. Develops and maintains monthly marketing reports delivered to the VP of Marketing + Communications

 

  1.  Attends Visit Bend board meetings every other month

 

  1. Assists with guest services in the Bend Visitor Center when extra support is needed

 

  1.  Works closely with Visit Bend’s PR + Communications Manager, Marketing Manager, and the VP of Operations + Policy on a wide variety of projects.   

 

  1.  Provides general administrative and organizational support to the CEO as needed. 

 

  1.  Provides budget management assistance to the VP of Marketing + Communications, CEO, and CFO.

 

Minimum Required Skills:

 

  1. High level of comfort and expertise with website content management systems including WordPress

 

  1. High level of understanding and expertise with general marketing practices and strategies

 

  1. High level of comfort and expertise with all forms of digital marketing, especially social media and SEO/SEM

 

  1. Proficiency in graphic design, photo editing, and videography skills using Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere.

 

  1. Strong written and verbal communication skills.  Creative copywriting and editing required.

 

  1. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to manage and collaborate effectively

 

  1. Motivation, enthusiasm, and ability to work independently

 

  1. Tourism-specific industry experience is not required!

 

 

Compensation

 

1.        Competitive, negotiable salary - $55,000 - $70,000, DOE
