Job Summary

As the Human Resources Manager you will have the opportunity to interact with all aspects of the Nantahala Outdoor Center, as well as test and grow your skills in all facets of Human Resources. From onboarding through orientation, implementing and creating company culture, policy and procedure, to building the employee benefit program offerings, this role at the Nantahala Outdoor Center is unique and dynamic. Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and coordination of company policy and practices throughout the organization. In addition to, educating and communicating these policies and procedures to all managers and employees
  • Owns and coordinates the onboarding and orientation of new and returning employees
  • Manages HR team consisting of Full-Time Recruiter and two seasonal HR Assistants
  • Assists managers in employment processes such as hiring, terminations, transfers, promotions and disciplinary conversations
  • Ensures the integrity and accuracy of HR database and records. Tracks and resolves employee issues while educating managers on disciplinary steps, follow-up procedures, and the importance of documentation
  • Plans and administers employee benefits, voluntary & group including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Short & Long Term Disability, and Life insurance. In addition t, yearly insurance renewals and enrollment processes and 401(k) management
  • Evaluates compensation and benefit programs to maximize employee satisfaction while meeting the organization’s strategic objectives and all legal requirements. Ensuring compliance with HIPAA, COBRA, and Federal and State laws
  • Responsible for company reporting, including 5500 preparation, ACA, OSHA, and EEO reporting
  • Develops Leadership Training programs for managers
  • Creates and manages department budget
  • Manages the processes for paid time off, incentive programs, Worker’s Compensation, disability, FMLA, and Unemployment
  • Expected to handle all escalated employee issues, concerns and complaints
  • Supports the administration of company offered staff housing, room assignments, rent deductions, and disciplinary issues
  • Plans, organizes and leads staff functions/events throughout the year
  • Helps in managing the seasonal international hiring program
  • Must be able to meet company and departmental deadlines
  • Travels to other NOC locations to conduct orientations, meeting with managers, etc.
  • Participates in the Leadership Team as an active contributor in learning more about the company’s opportunities and actively offers ideas and programs to help in targeted areas.

Qualifications

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously with little supervision
  • Strong social skills with an assertive and accessible personality
  • Ability to speak in front of 40+ individuals
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with the ability to convey a clear message to audience
  • Must be able to prioritize multiple projects, recommend solutions and perform under pressure
  • Previously demonstrated the ability to use absolute discretion with issues of confidentiality
  • Familiarity with Outlook applications, Microsoft Office and Adobe
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record
  • Ability to embody and exemplify NOC Core Values and Standards of Conduct

Preferred

  • A passion for the outdoor industry and leading an outdoor lifestyle preferred
  • Previous experience working in the outdoor recreation industry preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience in Human Resources preferred
  • Familiarity with iCIMS and ADP Workforce Solutions preferred
  • SHRM Certified professional preferred

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to travel locally
  • Must be able to lift 30lbs
  • Must be comfortable sitting for long periods of time
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, twist and climb ladders
  • Must be comfortable working in an indoor office environment
  • Must be adaptive and reactive to changes in technology and use of new programs
  • Must be able to spend periods of time outside
