The ideal candidate will have experience working with youth-focused bicycling programs in marginalized communities, strong project management and communication skills, an aptitude for coalition building and enthusiasm for growing youth bicycling.

Outride is a public nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of youth through cycling. Through its research, cycling programs, and grant giving activities, Outride provides evidence-based cycling programs to improve the social, emotional, and cognitive health of youth.

A commitment to safe, healthy, reliable and affordable access to bicycling for all members of a community is essential to this position.

Required qualifications:

=      At least three years of experience with youth program development and/or in a youth focused or related organization

=      Aptitude for working with and relating to racially and socioeconomically diverse populations

=      Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively with multiple internal and external stakeholders

=      Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written

=      Strong project management skills

=      Four-year college degree, all majors considered; experience can be substituted for years of advanced education

=      Knowledgeable about and enthusiastic for bicycling in all its forms

=      PeopleForBikes will consider alternative ways that an applicant may have gained the required qualifications outside of traditional pathways

Responsibilities include:

=      Partner closely with Outride leadership and staff to align its programs and geographic focus with PeopleForBikes programs and activities

=      Work with industry and non-profit partners to understand their youth-focused programs and resources and promote them both internally and externally

=      Identify and develop partnership opportunities in the bicycling and non-profit fields

=      Work with the Outride and PeopleForBikes marketing and communications teams to align messaging and share stories

=      Inform PeopleForBikes’ program, communications and event offerings from the perspective of growing youth bicycling

Compensation and benefits:

This “at-will” position offers an annual salary of $50,000 - $65,000. PeopleForBikes offers an excellent and comprehensive benefits package. This includes paid health insurance for employees, a generous paid-time-off (PTO) policy including 22 days plus federal holidays, paid parental leave, flexible work schedule including work from home options, and optional participation in a deferred compensation retirement plan, with immediate vesting of the competitive employer match. In addition, we provide long-term disability insurance, a regional public transportation pass, a cell phone plan, along with other benefits.

At PeopleForBikes, our agreed-upon set of team norms is what drives us to do our best every day we show up to work: we continually strive to build and strengthen our team, we work together effectively to serve our mission and we have fun.  Beyond that, we’re casual, we work flexibly with some remote work allowed and we love dogs. You don’t have to be an amazing bike rider to work here — what matters to us is a desire to work alongside passionate people improving the world through bikes.

About PeopleForBikes

Launched in 1999 as Bikes Belong, PeopleForBikes includes both an industry coalition of bicycling suppliers and retailers, as well as a charitable foundation. Our foundation is where we house our major programs and engage individual members, affiliate organizations, and corporate sponsors. Over the years, we have spent more than $30 million to make bicycling better. We’ve invested $2.1 million in community bicycling projects and leveraged more than $654 million in federal, state, and private funding. We have contributed millions to national groups and programs like the Safe Routes to School National Partnership, the League of American Bicyclists, and the International Mountain Bicycling Association, ensuring safer places to ride for both children and adults >By connecting the bicycle industry and millions of individual riders, we generated political clout that secures a seat at the congressional table for people who benefit from bikes. (And that's just about everyone.) Through these efforts, federal investment in bicycling has quadrupled since we've been on the scene. We provide a unified front for advocating for bicycling on a national level, a strategic center to ensure collaboration between each piece in the bicycling movement, and the ability to support local efforts through our financial, community and communication resources.
