Job Description & Requirements

New, full-time crew member wanted for Living Lands & Waters' crew of boisterous river rats.

About Living Lands & Waters – Chad Pregracke started Living Lands & Waters in 1998 as a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the beautification and restoration of America’s major rivers and the education of environmental issues. From his single-boat-beginning, LL&W has grown to an industrial-strength, internationally known organization with a fleet of barges and workboats. Spending up to nine months a year living on the barge, LL&W engages thousands of volunteers each year in river cleanups, hands-on environmental education workshops, the Great Mississippi River Cleanup, Adopt-a-River-Mile, Alternative Spring Break, the I-80 Restoration Project, Invasive Species Removal, the MillionTrees Project and Recycle Like a Rockstar.

Every day looks different for an LL&W crew member. Still, top job roles include: driving a boat full of either garbage or volunteers (we’ll teach you if you don’t possess this skill already), going on river cleanups, driving trucks and pulling trailers both short and long distances, living and traveling on the barge (or the occasional hotel) for up to 9 months per year, rigging and decking, helping with daily tasks, errands, and maintenance (sometimes extremely random in nature).

We're looking for a quick learner who is willing to roll with the punches of a fast-paced, cleanup season from roughly March-November.

Be prepared to work outside in the elements and often get down and dirty while rocking a badass lifejacket.

You should possess spontaneity, charisma, a love for adventure, and care for the environment.

You should be able to show up with a smile and cheerful demeanor no matter what the day may bring. The best in this business are workaholics with a touch of OCD, and a side of snappy punchlines.

This isn't your typical job - it's a lifestyle. You must be willing to show up early and leave late. We're in this mission for the long haul, whatever it takes.

Be prepared to suddenly have the most fulfilling and exciting job around with co-workers who will become your family.

Must be 21 or older with a valid driver’s license. Salary & benefits included. The start date will be early to mid-March.
