Gearin' Up Bicycles is a nonprofit bicycle shop in Washington, D.C. Our mission is to create career development opportunities and teach essential workplace skills to youth from underserved communities, while encouraging cycling as a healthly practical means of transportation. Gearin' Up Bicycles provides access to quality, affordable bicycles for those in need and host various community outreach events throughout the year.
Gearin' Up seeks to hire a Program Coordinator to re-boot its educational and community programming following a year of pandemic restrictions and leadership change. All activities focus on BIPOC youth communities in Washington, D.C. Under the guidance of the Program Director, the PC will:
- Plan and implement bicycle workshops and pop up clinics to teach bicycle maintenance, repairs and safety
- Assist the PD in developing partnerships with local high schools, city agencies, libraries, reccreation centers, and other community groups in underserved areas of the District
- Reinitiate on-site bicycle programming at the shop as COVID-19 permits, such as youth "Earn-a-Bike" programs, and will engage volunteers in programming.
Qualifications
- Passion for Gearin' Up's mission and working with youth
- 2-3 years bicycle mechanic experience with comfort working on older bicycles
- Strong ability to work with youth and volunteers
- Experience managing a detailed work plan with multiple programs in play
- Ability to generate reports
- Experience with Lightspeed retail software a plus
Salary range: $37k-40k
