Bikes Make Life Better designs and operates world-class bicycle programs for large organizations that have a strong commitment to sustainable transportation. We run a robust bike program for a high-tech company headquartered in Menlo Park, CA where campus bikes are the best way for thousands of employees to get around. We are seeking a Bike Fleet Operations Assistant Manager to help lead the team that assembles and deploys those bikes.

The Bike Fleet Operations Assistant Manager is a people manager, with outstanding communication, collaboration and customer service skills. This individual helps manage a large team of Bikes Make Life Better rebalancers and bike captains, coordinating efforts with the larger bike team and with the client.

Candidates with experience managing people in any outdoor industry encouraged to apply. This is a full-time, exempt position, weekdays mainly, with occasional weekend responsibilities.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Coordinates the daily operation of bike rebalancing staff on campus
  • Assists in ensuring fleet bike assembly goals are met and proper assembly standards maintained
  • Directly manages, supervises, coaches, disciplines, and provides daily guidance and oversight to Bike Captains and Rebalancers
  • Creates, publishes, and edits schedule for Bike Fleet staff including responding to PTO/UTO requests and ensures adequate coverage across campuses by prioritizing and assigning work
  • Creates, with input from Bike Captains and other team members, and manages implementation of a Bike Fleet Action Plan to best serve the client community
  • Collaborates with the Bike Fleet Operations Manager and the Client’s Transportation department to assess needs and recommend improvements to campus bike infrastructure and operations
  • Monitors, responds to staff feedback, and directs campus bikes and Bike Fleet operations
  • Analyzes data and provides weekly reports to General Manager and Transportation on current campus bike numbers and other Bike Fleet metrics
  • Responsible for distributing staff tools and equipment
  • Schedules and leads weekly team meetings, participates in interviews and hiring for all Bike Fleet candidates in collaboration with the Bike Fleet Operations Manager
  • Collaborates with Bike Fleet Operations Manager and helps oversee staff training for all new hires and current staff
  • Collaborates with Bike Fleet Operations Manager to make decisions regarding employee reviews, raises, advanced training, conflict resolution, and promotions for all Bike Fleet staff

  • May occasionally be required to lift 10 pounds
  • Spends most of their time working indoors at a desk but is mobile (i.e. visiting operations often) and may be exposed to rain, heat/cold

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Experience managing projects and programs, directing and/or collaborating with staff to achieve project/program goals
  • Education, training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Proven ability to manage and lead a variety of staff and programs
  • Friendly and customer service-driven
  • Good time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Team player with good communication skills
  • Ability to inspire and lead staff
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance
