Started in 2014 in the middle of downtown in beautiful Eastern Oregon! The business is a fixture of the community and has undergone two physical expansions to make room for more inventory. 2020 was our best year yet despite having closed the store for about 10 weeks for covid going into the peak season (modest net sales growth over 2019 and net income jumped 50% to $112k). To compensate for the closing I created an online store, which now reliably generates about 15% additional revenue on top of what we do in store. Managing the business remotely while in grad school, I now spend about 10-15 hours a week keeping up our marketing strategy and buying. All processes and procedures are detailed in a project management platform we use called Monday.com.

Current focus is on backpacking in the summer and snow softgoods (jackets, googles, helmets, gloves, but no skis or boards) in the winter. Key brands include Patagonia, North Face, Prana, Keen, Salomon, Osprey, Nemo, Thermarest, Big Agnes, Chaco, Teva, Cotopaxi, Kavu, MSR, Katadyn, Hydrapak, etc. We also have had a lot of success buying used apparel and equipment.

We have a strong social media following on Instagram (~1500 followers) and Facebook (~2000) and run a monthly newsletter to about 1200 subscribers. The region has tons of great outdoor activities for locals and tourists, and there are no real competitors for about 100 miles in any direction.
