Lab Testing Technician I

Education:

• Associates degree preferred, in relevant field of study
• Equivalent years of related work experience required, preferably in a 3rd party testing company

Work Experiences:

• Minimum 2 years of related work experience required

Skills:

• Level of knowledge towards quality assurance testing techniques and procedures
• Able to interpret and follow test methods and other product performance testing requirements for apparel and / or footwear  
• Familiar with Federal Agency Regulations, including but not limited to CFR’s, FTC, CPSC / CPSIA/ ASTM / SATRA/ CSA/ UL/ EN/  standard methods
• Ability to read and write, basic mathematical skills and comprehends instructions
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and e-mail software
• Ability to effectively communicate internally and external vendors
• Ability to operate and a knowledge of a variety of laboratory testing equipment      

Responsibilities:

• Assist in the developing of product performance and testing functions for Academy’s private label product
• Ensures product performance testing is conducted within established timelines following approved internal testing methods
• Maintains an acceptable turn a around time as per department goals.      
• Participates in writing internal Product Performance Standards and Specifications for current and new private label products
• Supports the specialist and managers to work with Product Development/Global Sourcing teams to reach final agreement on testing to be conducted seasonally
• Assist with communication of product performance test data and results to other associates such as buyers, global sourcing, and outside vendors
• Works closely with global sourcing teams, vendors, and QA management
• Conducts in-house testing and reviews 3rd party testing labs' product performance testing for private label products      
• Assist with testing of designated national brand merchandise to facilitate competitive analysis of private label merchandise
• Reviews Product Performance Test results from internal and 3rd party testing companies
• Has frequent e-mail and verbal communication with QA Testing Specialist or Manager on all testing, procedural and technical issues
• Maintains testing database, reports, filing, standards and procedures
• Maintains records of training of deemed test methods and equipment
• Support seminars and educational training to others in regards to QA initiatives    
• Prepares laboratory for tours as needed to visitors, including but not limited to, store managers, new Team Members.
• Ensures laboratory and equipment is maintained and kept in testing standard condition
• Maintains safe and clean working environment by adhering to sanitation policies and procedures
• Required to learn company policies, procedures and safety rules
• Duties may change; Team Members may be required to perform other duties as assigned
