Job Description: Operations Manager 

Hours: 1.0 FTE, Exempt 

Reports To: General Manager 

Compensation: DOE, with benefits

Location: Salt Lake City, UT

OPERATIONS MANAGER 

The Operations Manager is the guide for front desk staff in creating a welcoming, accessible, smooth, and high-quality customer experience at Bouldering Project. Responsible for coordinating staffing, retail, training, and cross-departmental logistics for the Front Desk Team, the Operations Manager brings enthusiasm, vision, and leadership to the hub of the gym: the Front Desk. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES STAFF MANAGEMENT 

• Interview, hire, train, manage, evaluate performance, and facilitate growth opportunities for all ops staff 

• Schedule staff via organized, economical, and efficient staffing systems 

• Manage with positivity, flexibility, and a growth mindset 

• Empower, enable, and assist the Operations Supervisors in overseeing all floor activities 

• Maintain employee motivation and job satisfaction via dynamic leadership and support. This position is responsible for coaching, mentoring, and actively leading the operations team in the BP customer service vision and values 

• Provide guidance and oversight to the Membership Services Coordinator 

• Communicate with management/staff to ensure operational quality and consistency across gym offerings 

• Refine training and documentation resources to ensure operations staff remain informed 

• Serve as support for team members in difficult or unforeseen situations 

• Assist the accounting department with payroll and HR systems, as needed 

• Communicate with staff to understand the real time needs of the facility and our guests 

FACILITY MANAGEMENT 

• Collaborate with the Facility Manager to maintain a clean, organized, and safe facility 

• Ensure that facilities and equipment remain clean, functioning, and high-quality 

• Monitor and maintain stock of member supplies 

RETAIL MANAGEMENT 

• Maintain retail vision, stocking levels, and inventory replenishment processes 

• Maintain organized, clean, and thoughtfully arranged retail and lobby areas 

• Ensure staff are trained to utilize our POS system competently and consistently 

OTHER DUTIES 

• Daily Front Desk management responsibilities 

• Develop and maintain an excellent understanding of the RGP software we use, serving as a resource and guide for operations staff, and communicating standards and best practices 

• Serve as Operations Supervisor/Specialist, or other roles, as needed 

• Oversee and adhere to the financial and labor hours budgets for the operations department 

• Weekly meetings with the management and operations teams 

• Work with the setting team to maintain an efficient and effective incident reporting process 

• Assist in organizing and staffing for Bouldering Project events 

• Collaborate with other departments on special projects including work done with community partners 

• Coordinate with the Marketing Team as promotions occur to ensure operations staff are trained accordingly

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF MANAGERS RISK MANAGEMENT 

• Practice and support risk management 

• Act as Incident Commander in an emergency in the building in the absence of the GM 

• Ensure all programs are prepared for and sufficiently supported in the event of an emergency 

FACILITY MANAGEMENT 

• Collaborate with the Facility Manager to maintain a clean, organized, and safe facility 

• Ensure that facilities and equipment remain clean, functioning, and high-quality 

• Monitor and maintain stock of member supplies

WORKING CONDITIONS 

Duties require the availability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs and events, including occasional work on evenings and weekends. Duties often occur before and after regular business hours. The Operations Manager should expect to be onsite and be reasonably available to staff when not at the gym via phone, Google Chat, Slack, and/or email. 

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS 

It is imperative to maintain excitement about the culture and community at the Bouldering Project. The Operations Manager is at the forefront of this aspect of the gym. The Operations Manager leads the staff in supporting the Bouldering Project community and must conduct themselves accordingly. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS 

• 2+ years management experience working with a team of 20+ staff members, including hiring and onboarding of new staff. Comfortable offering constructive feedback and strong customer service skills. Additional leadership and/or hospitality experience preferred 

• Proficiency in Google and Microsoft Office suites 

• Retail experience and proficiency in scheduling software and Rock Gym Pro preferred 

• A basic understanding of accounting principles 

• 18-month commitment to the position is desired
