Job Description: Staff Industrial Designer 

Trailside Creative is searching for a badass Industrial Designer to start work as soon as possible. This position will be for the greater Austin, Texas area and will include in-studio and out of studio work. The ideal candidate is one who is passionate about the outdoors, and is as skilled as they are passionate about the craft of Industrial Design. If you’re reading this, and are ready to design products for the outdoor activities you love to do, then we want to hear from you!  We are looking for designers who can collaborate well, and occasionally lead, projects of all types and sizes with a small team that works closely together to deliver exceptional product design for a variety of project types including softgoods, hardgoods and safety equipment. Since drawing is the key to communicating early conceptual ideas, a strong candidate will have the ability to sketch at all fidelity levels, as well as draft product concepts to participate in ideation sessions for developing product concepts.

We are a collaborative team that switches gears quickly, and does whatever is required to achieve our goals. We work together to produce high quality products and experiences. 

What you’ll need to have:

• You have a 4 year degree in an Industrial Design discipline

• You have 2+ years of experience working in the Industrial Design field

• You have the ability to ideate in both digital and analog formats

• Proficient with principles of CAD modeling – using tools such as Rhino, Solidworks, Fusion 360, and Blender. Gravity Sketch is a plus.

• Strong ability to sketch and draw

• An eye for good design, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of intuitive user experiences

• Ability to prototype continuously and iteratively, from quick sketches to refined 3D prototypes

• Have a basic understanding of Hardgoods manufacturing techniques and tooling constraints

• Comfortable using sewing machines with a working knowledge of softgoods pattern making and assembly techniques

What you’ll do with us:

• Develop products in a range of industries primarily focused on user experiences within the Outdoor and Action Sports industries

• Develop and iterate designs through sketches, prototypes, renderings

• Regularly present design work to various decision-makers, including clients

• Participate in a development process that takes products from concept to factory production while keeping within budgets and timelines

• With guidance, lead other designers in design cycles as needed

• Identify suitable manufacturing partners, source components, and negotiate costs

A strong candidate will have:

• 3 or more years as an Industrial Designer

• Exhibit sound problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, an innate sense of good aesthetics, strong communication, uniqueness, and passion

• A portfolio that demonstrates concept exploration, innovative solutions, and communicates problem-solving skills

• 3D modeling familiarity – preferably Rhino, Solidworks or Fusion 360

• Confidence with 2D and 3D design visualization tools

• Experience leading or running different size projects 

• Current documentation to work in the United States
