Associate Program Manager

POSITION OVERVIEW
As a member of Parks California’s programs team, you will work to tackle many of the most significant challenges facing California’s parks. Our team members, skilled in collaborative decision making and refined project management, drive multiyear engagements that coalesce partnerships with state government, nonprofit organizations, communities, and business sectors. You will contribute to the growth and wellbeing of California’s communities and the long-term health of our park system – from visitor experience to natural resource protection.
The Associate Program Manager will support the implementation of projects across our program areas. The ideal candidate is passionate about nurturing meaningful relationships with community members, developing partnerships, and driving systemic change for the betterment of parks and people. The Associate Program Manager brings a meticulous and methodical approach to project management, managing multiple deadlines simultaneously, and collaborates exceptionally well across cross-functional virtual teams.

The Associate Program Manager reports to the Director of Community Engagement and is also accountable to project leads for specific work streams across our programs.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Program and Partnerships

• Contribute to work products and research across a portfolio of multi-year project engagements.
• Manage project work streams across Parks California projects and support ongoing activities that ensure the organization’s successful program delivery.

• Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with California State Park partners and other organizations and stakeholders serving on project teams.

• Review work and deliverables of project consultants and interns.

• Represent Parks California and California State Parks in community and stakeholder meetings.

• Organize and participate in community engagement events.

• Assesses project and program risk and identify potential problems before they occur.

• Work with the communications team to build engaging and effective presentations and website content.

• Work in tandem with project leads to ensure that the metrics we track are actionable and complete.

• Support research and ongoing improvement of program delivery models:

• Identify best practices and innovation within program areas that can be scaled across state parks

• Effective community engagement, park relevancy and interpretation practices

Administration

• Prepare, maintain, and submit clear and concise activity/progress reports and time recording/management reports.

• Participate on program calls with partners, cross-functional calls with internal departments, developing agendas, capturing meeting minutes, and documenting any risks, assumptions, issues, or dependencies.

• Facilitate program kickoff calls and initial onsite meeting (if applicable) to review program methodology and develop program timelines.

• Help monitor budgets to ensure billing is accurate and that projects remain on budget.

• Develop and monitor execution of project scopes to ensure project plans deliver on intent.
Desired Experiences and Competencies

• Previous work experience in the implementation of multi-stakeholder projects or consulting engagements.

• Well-organized and detail oriented in the management of multiple projects, contracts, and logistics.

• Ability to set and manage priorities, exercise sound judgment, and meet deadlines.?Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a cross functioning team, building strong and trusted relationships.

• Experience or strong interest in learning about the intersection of equitable park access and conservation/natural resource stewardship.

• Demonstrated cultural competency and understanding of environmental justice issues in underinvested communities.

• Full competency in the use of Microsoft Office, notably Word, Excel and PowerPoint

• Proficient in the use of SharePoint, survey tools, Monday.com and/or the willingness and ability to learn.

COMPENSATION & LOCATION
Full-time position with a salary range of $75,000 – $85,000, including a comprehensive benefits package, will be offered based on experience.
This position is remote anywhere within California, though two hours driving distance to Sacramento is preferred. Occasional travel to Parks California’s offices and California state parks will be required.
