Avid outdoorswoman Jennifer Rice, PA sees herself as the guardian of your skin. The Sierra Summits Skin Products founder skincare mission began while attending the South University Physician Assistant program in Savannah, Ga., when she witnessed her fathers grueling battle with skin cancer. It was then that she decided to dedicate her life to protecting herself and others from this disease. Following her graduation from South University, Rice pursued a career as a physician assistant in a Reno, Nevada-based dermatologists office. This position allowed her to play an integral role in skin cancer education and prevention. For several years, she listened to patients concerns and complaints about sunblock, then an idea struck: Why not create a high quality, dermatology-grade sun block, without the dermatology office price tag or the annoyances typically associated with traditional sunblock (heavy, greasy, allergenic, etc). Within six months of her idea, Sierra Summits was born. Rice along with her mother, Martha Rice, who handles the company finances, set out to create a superior sunblock that provided broad spectrum UV protection under the most challenging high altitude conditions. The company began with Rice and her Tahoe friends testing the product during their own skiing, snowshoeing and mountain biking adventures. Sierra Summits offers 3 formulations of sunscreen, a line of all natural skincare products and one pet product.
