Job Description & Requirements

The Activity Manager is responsible for the construction, inspection, and maintenance of Land Activities located onsite at the U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC). Activities include, but are not limited to, zip lines, high and low roped elements, continuous belay systems, climbing walls, belayed jumps and a canopy tour. Work is performed year round in an outdoor environment. Technicians can either be hired as full-time, benefits eligible employees or seasonal employees and report directly to the Facilities Department Head.

Responsibilities: 

  • Inspect, repair, and preform preventative maintenance on all gear, elements, and structures associated with Land Activities at the USNWC
  • Assist in the construction of new activities – complete courses, individual elements, and/or the remodeling of existing courses
  • Plan for new builds with innovate ideas
  • Stock and order hardware, rope, and other supplies
  • Ensure the safety of large numbers of guests on highly trafficked activities by completing thorough, regular inspections with strong attention to detail
  • Work as a member of a small team in order to complete assigned tasks – individual work may also be occasionally required
  • Develop plans for monthly, weekly, and daily work
  • Supervise and manage Activities Technicians
  • Communicate with the Outdoor Projects Manager of the Land Department to schedule, maintain, modify courses
  • Effectively manage time and prioritize tasks with the ability to adapt and answer immediate needs as they arise
  • Work with third party builders or representatives
  • Maintain availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required

Requirements: 

  • Familiar with quality and safety standards set by the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) and other relevant organizations
  • Follow ACCT standards
  • Strong background in rock climbing, tree work, rigging, ropes course management, carpentry, or another related field
  • Experience working safely and effectively with hand tools and power tools
  • Operate and train on chainsaws and heavy machines
  • Ability to contribute to a specialized, team-oriented work environment
  • Ability to work outdoors for sustained periods of time under varying weather conditions
  • Work comfortably and responsibly at heights of up to 100 feet and occasionally in confined spaces
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent period of professional work experience
  • The ability to lift and carry at least 75 pounds over various terrain
