BOEC Summer Internship Description

(May 15th- September 30th)

During the summer, Interns are trained to support Wilderness Program courses. Interns will be expected to work collaboratively to prepare for, implement/facilitate, and evaluate the courses. Courses can range from one to fourteen days and may be held at our wilderness site or in a mobile format (camping, canoeing, or rafting trips in both Colorado and Utah). Interns will become familiar with program activities and the adaptation opportunities that include hiking, canoeing, kayaking, zip-lining, climbing, white-water rafting, and more.

Participants of the Wilderness Program include people of all ages and abilities. BOEC serves children with sensory processing disorders, courses for youth or adults with visual impairments, programs for historically disadvantaged youth, adults with traumatic brain injuries, children with hemophilia, people with spinal cord injuries, adults with multiple sclerosis, and many others within the full spectrum of disability and diagnosis.

Interns are involved with course delivery from beginning to end. Interns are support staff and will not manage a course without the support and supervision of our experienced Course Directors and Instructors. Coming in with experience does not guarantee that you will be leading any of our activities, as our staff and Course Directors will be the ones planning and being the lead voices mitigating risk throughout our programming.

Ideal candidate is self-motivated, takes initiative, experience in our programming areas, and some experience working with people with disabilities and special needs. All interns must have a strong sense of hard work, flexibility, a love of the outdoors, an open mind, and a love for working with people.
