Marketing Manager
Alaska Rock Gym, Anchorage

Role Description
The Marketing Manager for Alaska Rock Gym is responsible for the overall advertising and marketing efforts of the company. They are responsible for developing and executing strategies that support the company’s growth and align with ARG objectives.

Responsibilities include:

• Reestablishing the brand and persona of Alaska Rock Gym.
• Planning a quarterly or monthly marketing strategy. This should include a calendar of campaigns and events, monthly newsletters (digital and print), internal marketing, tangibles for events, daily-weekly digital updates for gym offerings, and incorporation of new marketing strategies that might be needed.
• Utilize multiple types of marketing. The Marketing Manager should be proficient in content creation and able to quickly stream that information across a handful of platforms including digital, direct, social media, product, and email marketing. They are encouraged to explore new terrain as well.
• Researching market trends and interactions with each marketing platform to keep our advertising targeted and efficient. Use KPIs to make data-based decisions. Provide the General Manager with tracking and reporting on marketing results to continually refine campaigns.
• The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of the climbing industry. They will be able to take high quality photos and have a quick turnaround time using those photos for ARG marketing purposes. Content creation for social media will be easy for this person to execute.

While there is a lot of autonomy with this role, the expectation is that someone is always managing the social media(s) and/or has plans in place to make sure the company is always current and present online. This is a full time, salaried position with PTO, a simple IRA option, health insurance stipend, and industry benefits.

Preferred skills and job expectations

• BA in Marketing and/or 2+ years of previous marketing experience
• 4+ years of consistent climbing experience (outside, inside, sport, trad, etc.). The more diverse the climbing background, the better
• Comfortable using a camera for high resolution photos and the ability to quickly edit photos for use
• Must be available to work weekends and evenings and be regularly present in the gym
• Ability to work well with a team and be able to welcome new ideas
• Thorough understanding of social media and be proficient in using multiple social platforms. Know how to use data from these platforms to generate sales and marketing strategies
• Strong ability to learn new softwares and analyze data
• Able to conduct general SEO analysis and execute recommended changes
• Previous experience with Google Analytics, Adobe, Illustrator, Canva, WordPress, MailChimp, Meta, Instagram, Facebook, or comparable softwares is preferred

We opened in Anchorage, AK on Fairbanks Street in 1995. Our small gym was your classic dirtbag hangout with sendy vibes and misfit attitudes. It was truly a place for our small Anchorage community to gather and find community.

The climbing industry has since exploded (Hello, Olympics!). To make climbing more accessible to everyone, Alaska Rock Gym expanded and built a bigger, more modern, brand new facility on 33rd street in 2016! We are (still) the only climbing gym in Anchorage.
